"The Red Tree House"
Dear Reader,
...I almost don't want to tell you about it because its such a treasure, I'd rather keep it all to myself..but that would be selfish. Like many others who have commented here I am indeed a seasoned traveler, and have rarely come across such a gem. Stylish, reasonable, very comfortable, with Mexican charm..and thats just the staff! They were Brilliant. Wait until you see the main house with a grand piano and the rooms. Perfect. Perfect . Perfect. An Oasis in the desert. Not that Condesa is a desert- its the hippest bohemian neighborhood in the city. The only downside was not being recognized by some of the other guests, but really....what is one to do?The dog and I got along quite well. Until we meet again-Thanks Red Tree House

Hello Red Tree House,

Thank you so much for the information you shared, your hospitality, your willingness to help and your overall caring nature you all exude on each and every guest.

You squeezed us in for just one night; probably one of the most memorable nights we had. Happy New Year!
Kindest and Best Regards,
Rachel and Ed

After our stay at the Red Tree House, I can unequivocally state that this was my best lodging experience ANYWHERE, EVER. And I've traveled a bunch! Artfully decorated, comfortable rooms; a wonderful neighborhood; a warm, welcoming and accomodating staff that feels like family; fabulous food and a great dog--what else can you ask for? After hugging our hosts as we were leaving, my daughter and I got teary in the cab en route to the airport. She was begging me to miss our plane so we could go back. I told her not to worry--a return is definitely in the plans!

Thanks again to Craig, Ernesto, Jorge, Tessy and of course, Abril, for making our stay so magical!

I really enjoyed meeting you last evening and seeing your beautiful palace.

I look forward to bringing clients to stay with you, and to referring many.

Just got back this week and wish I could have stayed longer. Michael Ross's review below says it all. This is a truly great place with outstanding staff in a terrific location. Stayed in the Treehouse and while small it was all I needed and the bonus of the private patio made the annoying task of checking email enjoyable. I just hope I can make it back again before it gets too hard to get a reservation!

I had the same experience as the people writing on this wall. The Red Tree House is a gem. You feel like you just arrived at your relatives house, but they treat you better here : ) . Thanks to Ernesto, Tessy, Jorge, Craig and the many ladies making sure everything is clean, fresh and the yummy breakfast food they serve. The neighorhood is great, with lots of food, parks, architecture and easy access to everything. I'll be back. Muchas gracias a todos.

Just came back from a few days stay at the Red Tree House, which was the best and most memorable hotel I've ever stayed in. It didn't feel like a hotel at all, but rather a friend's house. Jorge, Craig, Ernesto, Tessy, and all of the rest of the staff have created something very special here. I can't say enough good things about it, and can't imagine staying anywhere else in Mexico City, which I'll no doubt return to some day. Condesa is a brilliant neighborhood with great restaurants, parks, shops, and easy access to the Metro. The house and the rooms are incredibly comfortable. The food was amazing, especially those chilaquiles in the morning! We had a great time at happy hour a few nights, having a few drinks in the courtyard or the living room with fellow travelers and Craig and Jorge, many laughs were had. But the best thing about this place was the staff. They couldn't have been nicer, more helpful, and made us feel at home any more than they did. I'm sure there are plenty of nice hotels in a city this size. But I know there isn't another place like the Red Tree House. Go there.

Based upon my recent (October, 2009) stay at the RTH I would like to share my opinion on who would most enjoy this special place:
First, travelers who would like to stay in an architecturally interesting, safe, and quiet neighborhood with easy access to public transportation; an area with many good restaurants and bars, pretty parks, and lovely pedestrian walkways.
Second, travelers who would like to be in a beautiful courtyard home filled with interesting art, large floral arrangements, tasteful furniture, dramatic lighting, comfortable beds, and an atmosphere of quiet elegance.
Third, travelers who would like not only personalized service by the warm and hospitable staff, Tessy and Ernesto, but also the opportunity, if one wishes, to enjoy a glass of wine and conversation on some evenings with one or both of the owners, Jorge and Craig, and other guests.
Fourth, travelers who would like an informed response to any of their questions about Mexico City, advice on where to eat and things to do, and help with travel arrangements in the city.
Fifth, travelers who would like the guests they may share breakfast with or see throughout the day be international, have or have had interesting careers, and a desire to be friendly but not intrusive.
Sixth, travelers who want a breakfast consisting of freshly squeezed orange juice, cereals, assorted pastries and rolls, and a hot Mexican dish.
If the above sounds like the type of place you are looking for in Mexico City, then you will enjoy the Red Tree House as much as I did. It truly deserves its ranking as the best bed and breakfast in Mexico City.
