La Condesa

This neighborhood was once a huge estate owned by the Countess or La Condesa de Miravalle and  hence the name Condesa.  Prior to the Mexican Revolution it had the bull ring, racetrack, and the Jockey Club.  There were plans to make it into a modern neighborhood with wide boulevards, parks, and open space but development was stalled by the Revolution.

The Red Tree House is located in the most beautiful part of Condesa called Hipódromo, named after the former racetrack which is now Avenida Amsterdam.  We are at the south turn of that track.  Within the oval is Parque Mexico, a short stroll from our front door.  Because much of the area's growth was in the mid-1920s many of the building were built in the new Art Deco style reflecting the optimism of the period.

Today Condesa is a lively neighborhood of tree lined streets with restaurants, shops and galleries.  It is a great place to come home to after a day of sightseeing or work.
